The incident took place in New Haven County around 2:50 p.m. on Monday, April 10 in Waterbury at 27 Platt St.
Waterbury firefighters responded to the home and found a 67-year-old man who was unresponsive and was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital prior to police arrival on the scene, said Lt. Ryan Bessette, of the Waterbury Police.
Police were notified around 3:30 p.m. that the man, identified as Wilfredo Martinez, of Waterbury, had died, Bessette said.
An investigation by police determined that there was a domestic disturbance incident at the residence earlier. It is believed that Martinez was involved in a physical altercation with his son, identified as Luis Martinez, 42, of Waterbury, Bessette said.
Luis Martinez was located shortly afterward and taken into police custody and charged with:
- Assault on an elderly person
- Assault
- Reckless endangerment
- Breach of peace
- Threatening
He also has multiple outstanding warrants with other agencies.
Martinez is held on a $1 million bond pending court arraignment.
An investigation is ongoing.
Bessette said the department is working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the official cause of death.
